Home-Start Uganda is a voluntary organization dully registered in Uganda (registered under the NGO Statute Reg. No. S. 5914/5081 in March 2004.) in which volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families with young children, in their own homes, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown. Home-Start is available for any family with at least one child under 8 years of age.

Home-Start has been working in this way for over 30 years, worldwide. It is a family support organisation with active and wholly independent sister organisations using similar but by no means identical methodology in more than 16 countries.

A National Coordinator with extensive organisational and non-profit service experience governs Home-Start Uganda. One hundred percent (100%) of the board of Director are guarantors; all board members serve on a probono basis.

Home-Start Uganda wants to see a Uganda where vulnerable families receive the help they need to give their children a safe and healthy start in life.

To help families and children in Uganda by facilitating growth, development and sustainability of the Home-Start family support service.

To promote the welfare of children and parents by providing effective models of family support training, information and guidance to parents and caregivers in care of very young children in their communities.

  • Safeguarding, protect and preserve the good health, both mental and physical of children and parents of children.
  • Preventing cruelty to or maltreatment of children
  • Relieving sickness, poverty and need amongst children and parents of children
  • Promoting parent education and skills amongst child care givers.
